Rice thrips

The genus Baileyothrips can be distinguished from othergenera with numerous abdominal microtrichia by the combination of trichomes on antennal segments III and IV; straight posterior fringe cilia with anterior fringe cilia present on the forewings; metasternal furca lacking spinula; abdominal sternites with accessory setae;abdominal tergite X divided; and 4-5 posteromarginal setae on theintermediate abdominal sternites.

The oriental rice thrips is an economically important pest of rice crops in the Old World. Wilting and scorching of the leaf tips is produced by larval and adult feeding, occasionally leading to stunting or death of the affected plants.

Chemical control: imidaclopridabamectin, thiamethoxam.
